This is song is more wishful thinking than reality. My oldest daughter gave me the original idea by always saying, "You're such a hillbilly." Cerro Gordo is where my Daddy's family is from but the only time I've been there was for my Grandpa's funeral. It's so small it's not even on Mapquest!
Anyhoo, I guess I'm just a hillbilly at heart. Hey, that sounds like a song! Maybe I'm a hillbilly trapped in a country boys body, or maybe a citybilly... or a hillslicker. Thank you. Thank you very much. I'll be here all week. Thank you very much.
I tend to ride the free wind whichever way it blows
The path of least resistance is the one that I follow
I don’t need no law dog telling me what to do
I ain’t looking for no trouble boy and I don’t won’t none from you
Cause I’m a hill man…..a hillbilly man
Well I’m just like my Daddy and my Grandpa before him
We mind our own and do our best to live just off the land
I don’t need permission to hunt and fish I don’t register my gun
I declare you best beware you stuck your nose where it don’t belong
Cause I’m a hill man…..a hillbilly man
We’re from down around Cerro Gordo on the Oklahoma side
So close you can spit cross that Arkansas state line
Six miles down a red dirt rode at the creek crossing hang a right
Up the hill towards the paper mill you’ll see the front porch light
Of the hill man…..hillbilly man
There ain’t too many men that I call friend ain’t too many of my kind
Don’t get much respect when I go to town but I don’t really mind
Cause them city folks done sold their souls slaves to the daily grind
It ain’t much living if you ain’t got the freedom to enjoy the simple life
Of a hill man…..hillbilly man
